In the heart of the historic center, among the market stalls where the people of Palermo have always continued to consume “street food” you will have the opportunity to see the places frequented by the locals. The route includes stops in the markets at street stalls, bakeries and taverns to taste: bread with spleen, bread with panelle and crocchè, sfincione, arancine and more. You will discover why these markets were called “grascia”, what are the “abbanniate” where the names Vucciria, Capo and Ballarò and the origins of street food come from. A tour of history and food tasting the typical traditional dishes among the locals. The route: The tour starts from Teatro Maasimo one of the symbolic monuments of Palermo. After a short description, a visit to the first market follows the Capo. The route winds through the alleys of the neighborhood and the fragrant stalls of fish and fruit with their unique Abbanniate songs from the market vendors. During the tour, the tour guide will show you the authentic soul of the market with its stories and monuments. But above all it will offer travelers tastings of traditional street food and telling you about curiosities and secrets. The street food tastings take place at local and authentic street vendors and fryers, selected on the basis of the quality of the food offered and the authenticity of the place. The visit of the second historical market follows: the Vuccria. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy the renowned pani ca’meusa (spleen and veal lung) and finally finish with a seasonal dessert (cannoli or brioche with ice cream).
